Women in Coffee

Harvesting coffee, shipping it, roasting it, preparing it and tasting it – from the coffee plantation all the way to your cup, there is a lot of hard work going into this fine hot drink. Only a job for real men? We don’t think so! And present you with five strong women who will shape the coffee industry in 2019.

It’s 2019 and we celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th for the 97th time. We took these 100 minus 3 years as an opportunity to take a closer look at our favourite beverage. Because this hot and cold caffeinated beverage shapes our everyday life more than any other: Every year the average person in Germany drinks 162 litres of coffee. In our opinion, this is reason enough to take a closer look at the coffee industry: What makes coffee good, who brews it, who makes money from it? And where do women enter the game?

Research quickly shows that the coffee industry is both male-dominated and a strong market. It is growing every year along with the world’s population – and, also, because coffee is becoming more and more popular worldwide. Nevertheless – or maybe precisely because of it – we now read more and more about women who become Barista World Champions or sit on the board of the world’s largest coffee associations.

We have spoken to five amazing coffee ladies and want to introduce them to you today: Their names are Trish, Agnieszka, Alexandra, Sarah and Noelia. Just how did these women make it in the industry? The answer is: With a lot of idealism, hard work and a great love for coffee. These five empowered women inspire – and continue to do so far beyond the realm of coffee. Naturally, they also have some great advice about brewing coffee for you.
